Cambodia's Bleak Infrastructure Forecast

This article offers a general overview of the current market outlook in Cambodia. While the construction sector is foretasted to grow within the next few years, other growth areas face considerable opposition. The business environment is struggling as a result of a number of factors, including "declining tourist arrivals, rising inflationary pressures . . . poor state of existing infrastructure and regulation . . . a haphazard financial landscape, and widespread corruption." All of these problems aside, the business climate did show signs of improvement in Q4 2011, with its Business Environment Rating rising to 38.3 (still not great).

As someone who knows little to nothing about Cambodia, let alone the business environment, I found the article to be both interesting and pertinent to our upcoming trip. Since most of our visits will focus on fairly "well-off" countries (e.g., China, Hong Kong, Japan, etc.), visiting Cambodia will offer us a look into one of the poorer economies in the Asia-Pacific region.
