This
article discusses the role that women play in Asian business, and specifically
in Thailand. Nearly 40 percent of all senior executive positions in Thailand
are held by women. This is the second highest participation rate in the world
after Russia which is at 46 percent. Last year Thailand led the world with an
average of 45 percent. This is compared to approximately a 20 percent rate in
Latin American, 25 percent in Asia Pacific economies, and 32 percent in South
East Asia. It is interesting to note the differences in percentages throughout
the world. No doubt culture plays some role in these statistics. For me, it
shows that Thailand is different from many other countries that don’t view
women to the same degree as “executive material.” I suppose that since I don’t
know a lot about Thailand, I assumed that it would have a more traditional
society where the women stay at home and the men work. I guess I was wrong.

I'm really surprised by this statistic. I thought that Asian women were usually looked down upon in Asian cultures and were taught to serve their husbands. I don't know anything about the culture in Thailand but I think it's cool that women can have such an influence in the business world there.
