metallic debate

The US and Japan have been complaining about China raising the price of rare metals used in producing high tech goods to protect domestic industry.  The WTO believes that this issue will resolve itself as a neutral policy is formed in the next few years.  They are hoping that the US and Japan will refrain from imposing tariffs that are made specifically to punish China.  However, because of the WTO involvement, they hope the problem will resolve itself.  This is interesting to me because it demonstrates the complexity of trade and gives me insight into current relations between China and Japan as well as the US.
