Students in East Asia are ahead in math and science subjects compared to those in the US. Compared with countries around the world, US ranks 21st place in science and 25th place in math. Although China may rank higher than the US, they see that their education lacks in creativity. I am an Early Childhood Education major, and for me I thought this may be interesting for my future occupation.

ReplyDeleteThis was an interesting look into the differences in Asian and US educational systems. The fact the US ranks so low in comparison to these East Asian countries is a cause for concern if the United States wants to remain a relevant, competitive economy in the future.

This is interesting to me because when I was in India I got to see first hand their education system, which I think is similar to China's, because both rely on a lot of memorization. While the students knew exact formulas and definitions, they couldn't always see the "why" behind what they were learning so I think there are definite trade offs.
