Pro-Democracy Protesters in Hong Kong.

When pro-democracy protesters heard about Leung Chun-ying's victory, they "began throwing paper money for the dead--a Chinese funeral custom." Recently there has been a lot of news coverage regarding the recent election of Hong Kong's chief executive and what that means for Hong Kong. I had not looked much into the issue, however, this article poses different views that many have about the current situation.

Many in Hong Kong are fearful that Leung Chun-ying's appointment will cause Hong Kong to be lead by China's Communist Party. Although China has promised universal suffrage for Hong Kong citizens in 2017, some are fearful that this will never happen.

I thought this article brought a lot of insight to the current relations between mainland China and Hong Kong. It will interesting to observe the different attitudes and ways of life when we visit both Beijing and Hong Kong.

  2. Interesting. The relationships of these countries are unbelievable. I can't understand them entirely. They cannot or will not let go of the other one. Chinese people has used one of their ancient ceremonial traditions of throwing yellow paper money at a funeral and turned it into a mode of political speech. Interesting
