Taiwan, America, and Meat Wars

Recently there have been problems in Taiwan with President Ma allowing America to import its beef.  The Taiwanese don't the American meet solely because it contains ractopamine which is a growth hormone fed to pigs and cattle.  Having lived in Taiwan I can totally understand why they are so strict on it, even if there is no physical side effect.  They seem to love to stick to what has been said and tradition.  It's very hard to convince them otherwise.  It's an interesting read.

  1. I find it interesting that Taiwan, the European Union, and China all ban American meat with ractopamine, when I haven't heard of any adverse affects from Americans eating it. It will be interesting to see if Pres. Ma chooses to disrupt US/Taiwan trade relations to gain the support of the people.
