China to promote cultural identity to Taiwan's youth

In 1949 Taiwan chose independence from China; China has for the past three decades been attempting to ease tensions between the two countries. They have done this through trade, investment and tourism. China has also been striving to touch the youth of Taiwan and trying to get them to identify more with Chinese culture and identity. One Jia Qinglin, a leader of China’s Communist Party said something to the effect of “Beijing will bring Taiwan under its control, we will use force, if necessary.” The means by which China has been using are through cultural exchanges in the areas of art, opera and religion among others to achieve this goal, Jia said.

  1. Having lived in Taiwan for two years I find this article very interesting. China definitely considers Taiwan to be a part of the country, yet Taiwanese, while they do relate to their Chinese heritage, still take pride in their democratic government as well as their unique Taiwanese culture. Hopefully China will never resort to force in order to bring Taiwan under its control.
