Nuclear Crisis in Japan more Serious than Suspected
Last year's earthquake and tsunami just off the coast of Japan resulted in a serious nuclear crisis. The degree of seriousness seems to have been hidden by government officials and the plant executives until recently. The nuclear plant executives debated whether or not to evacuate the entire plant, which could have resulted in a huge amount of radiation being released into nature, and would most likely cause the evacuation of two or three other major nuclear plants. The scope of the disaster that would have resulted is hard to determine, but would have likely resulted in an evacuation of the entire city of Tokyo. Prime Minister Naoto Kan insisted that the employees remain at the plant to keep the crisis under control. His actions likely prevented the one of the largest nuclear disaster in history.

ReplyDeleteI really do hope they have things under control, with all of us heading over there in a few months... Jk! I wonder what they are doing in order to stabilize and reinforce Nuclear Power plants due to the frequency of earthquakes and tsunami's in the region? - Ben Rindlisbacher
