In the Songkhla and Yala provinces, located in Thailand, there have been two recent car bombings. The bombings killed about thirteen people and injured hundreds more. The government has increased security in these areas, and the southern province Muslims are most likely the ones in charge of the car bombings. Majority of the people in the southern provinces are Muslim. This causes a problem because majority of the country is Buddhist so the people in the southern province feel that the government doesn’t represent them. I found this interesting because I wonder if the violence will get worse before we get there.

I certainly hope that we won't be in any of those areas. I don't think we will be. Also, to put our minds at ease, BYU, and Troy would be informed and make good decisions if there was potential danger in any of the areas we will be visiting. This article is interesting on how a combination of differences of race, religion, and representation can cause such violence. We must keep in mind that extreme groups and terrorists are not the majority but a very small minority and people we will be encountering will for the most part be similar in the fact that they are trying to provide and live the best they can according to how they know how. ~ Chet Matsuura
